OUR BLUEBERRIES

  • Earliblue blueberries

    Earliblue

    Ripe July 1st
    (approx. 75 berries per cup)

Earliblue blueberries are known to be tart & tangy. The longer they stay on the bush, the sweeter they get, but also the softer they get. This is the earliest variety we grow and we have a very limited supply.

Can be used for cooking, but much better to eat fresh.

  • Duke blueberries

    Duke

  • Pemberton blueberries

Our Organic Heirloom Pemberton Blueberries are medium-blue berries that are difficult to pick and prone to cracking in the wet weather. This variety is geared towards the beverage or baking industry. Pemberton blueberries produce a good amount of juice when crushed and have a sweet distinct flavor.

  • Blueray blueberries

    Ripe July 21st
    (approx. 60 berries per cup)

Our Organic Heirloom Blueray Blueberries are extra-large juicy berries with an extra-sweet taste. Pink tinged flowers are followed by edible, sweet, round, deep blue berries to 1/2 inch across Bred by the USDA (from the foundation work of Dr. Frederick Coville in the 1920’s) and released in 1939.

  • Jersey blueberries

    Jersey

    Ripe August 5th
    (approx. 110 berries per cup)

This is an heirloom cultivar that has abundant crops of large, light-blue berries. The Plant has ornamental appeal in the landscape with its tall, attractive shape. Resists cracking. Developed in 1916 and introduced in 1928. This variety ripens in early August. Jersey’s berries develop their sweetness about 3-5 days after turning blue, which often gives it an unfair report of tartness by over-eager pickers.  Given a little time, Jersey is one of the sweetest, most complex flavored blueberries one can try.

  • Rubel blueberries

    Rubel

    Ripe July 28th
    (approx. 132 berries per cup)

Our Organic Heirloom Rubel variety is an heirloom cultivar named by Elizabeth Coleman White around 1905-1906.  The original plant was found growing wild in the New Jersey Pine Barrens.  It was named after Rube Leek, the pine-barrens man who found it.  According to the story, Ms.  White didn’t want to name the blueberry “Leek”, and of course the name “Rube” back then was inappropriate in some circles.  But Rubel turned out to have staying power, and it is the progenitor of many modern cultivars.

Rubel’s berries are small, packed with sweetness, and copious. The mature bush yields between 8-10# of berries. It grows 5′ to 6′ tall and 3′ wide, with vibrant, reddish fall leaf color.  If you are looking for a blueberry that has the flavor and look of what blueberries were 100 years ago, in the wilds of the Jersey Pine Barrens, then Rubel is one to try.  It is still planted for production today, and has outlasted all its contemporaries, and many of its descendants.

It has the highest levels of antioxidants of all varieties.
